Who may not benefit from massage?
Any body who has a contraindication for massage or a person who does not want to be touched may not always benefit from the healing effects of massage.
A contraindication to massage is a condition that could be worsened by massage or a condition that could be harmful to both the massage therapist and the person receiving the massage. Things like athletes foot for instance could spread and is also contagious; therefore it would be considered a local contraindication for massage. A local contraindication is when we avoid massage to a specific area, and are able to massage the rest of the body.
When someone has a systemic condition or has had very recent major surgery that would contraindicate the massage until it is safe. Every body is different and each case is considered individually. If there is any reason for concern it is always best to check with your physician prior to booking a massage. All of our massage therapist has been trained to identify different pathologies that pertain to massage. We are here to enhance good health and overall well being, not to hinder. We welcome questions and are willing to help find answers if we cannot provide them.
